The Pennsylvania Prosperity Project

The national economic downturn is affecting us all.  Just as individuals are struggling to make ends meet, so too is our state government.  In Pennsylvania, the current fiscal year budget deficit is expected to be in excess of $2 billion by June 30, the end of the fiscal year.  Next year’s budget deficit could be even worse.  Governor Edward G. Rendell and the Pennsylvania General Assembly are currently working to close the budget shortfall and to enact a fiscal year 2009-2010 state budget.  The Pennsylvania business community has offered several fiscally responsible strategies to help solve the budget deficit.  These suggestions include reduced government spending, opposition to increased taxes on job creators, and limiting irresponsible government debt.

You can find out more about the Pennsylvania business community’s views on the budget, in addition to views on energy policy, environmental policy, health care policy, infrastructure, legal reform, taxes, and workforce development by clicking here

If you would like to write a letter to Governor Rendell and your state lawmakers as they prepare the state budget, urging them to adopt the fiscally responsible strategies offered by the business community, click here

Pennsylvania employers and employees must be active participants in advocating for policies that promote economic growth and job creation so that the state can emerge from the current economic downturn in a more competitive position.  If we remember this simple message – “Pennsylvania must be more competitive” -- we can all prosper.
